As soon as I say that I am have finshed answering all of the emails, I receive a flood of new emails. ^_^;; I better watch what I say in the future. Anyway now for the reason why I am making this update. Out of curiousity, I typed into google the search term "Pokemon" and then the term "Yu-Gi-Oh." The results were very interesting. Pokemon received about 3,990,000 results which you can view here: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&q=%22Pokemon%22 While Yu-Gi-Oh received about 542,000 results which you can view here: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&q=%22Yu%2DGi%2DOh%22 I forgot what people were saying about Pokemon verus Yu-Gi-Oh? I wonder if any of them would like to refresh my memory. ^_^

Ok, I think I caught up with all of the fan mail. I was starting to think I would never be able to catch up... I can't believe how many questions there were about Feebas. There is a thread on the board regarding its location, anyone who wants Feebas's location may like it: http://www.pokemonfanuniverse.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=374 One last thing. Please try to ask your questions on the message board. Other people will be able to help you there. With the large volume of email I receive, the message board may be faster. With that said, maybe now I will have enough time to code data arrays for the pokedex to make it more useful. ^_^

I wish people would tell me when an enhancement I make to decrease compile time in the php pokedex causes a bug that makes RBY/GSC data fail to display in certain entries... I just fixed the bug and uploaded a newer version.

The pokemon center in NYC is upgrading its distributation machine so it will be able to distribute rare pokemon to RS.

I noticed no one was clicking on search results so I just took the ad off. It was a bad idea anyway. I am going to forget about sponsors.
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 22, 2003
I received a request to take the ad off the pokedex since it became annoying in it so I did.

I have some good news and some bad news... The good news is Pokemon Fan Universe is really popular. The bad news is, it is not getting cheaper to keep online. I can afford it but it is getting a little expensive to pay for the site out of my own pocket. That is why I have setup a single sponsor ad. It is pokemon related. Anyone who wants to help me out with the hosting bill should run a search and click one of the results daily. I know this probably won't pay for the entire bill but the more it does, the more money I can save for a new computer which I plan to use to develop Pokemon Fan Universe faster. ^_^

Guys, if you have an RS question, please ask on the message board. There people, including myself, could help you. I am currently swamped with FAQs and emails. Now to get back to answering them. ^_^;;
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 20, 2003
In the future I will have to remember to do more testing before uploading the pokedex. There was a minor bug in the search engine where if you typed in a name while in the RS arrangement, you would be given a page with the pokemon (if it is a valid name) in the RBY/GSC arrangement. I just fixed it. I also added the capibility to search by number rather than by name.

I almost forgot to say, Happy Easter. Consider search engine in the php pokedex my Easter present for you guys. ^_^
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 20, 2003
I just made a minor update to the pokedex. Now you can run name based searches for pokemon. ^_^

Ah, the perks of answering email: receiving praise, questions, and viruses. I have a little tip for the jerk who sent me that email which utlizes an Outlook Exploit that appears to have been meant to fry my PC. Next time, try not to send the same huge subjectless email 3 times in a row. It is a little suspecious. By the way, if you didn't notice, I am still online. ^_^

I updated the Next in Japan picture. I would like to thank my Meowth346 who has been translating episode names for me, thanks a bunch. ^_^

I just made an update to the pokedex. It is version 1.2.5. Instead of updating with RS Flavor Text and Egg Moves (I will in the future), I updated with RS Flavor Text and Statistics. I also fixed several bugs and removed javascript from the pokedex. Enjoy reading the flavor text, personally, I find it interesting. Now to get back to training for that tournment, at the Pokemon Center, in NYC, on Monday...
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 18, 2003
I have been extremely busy with school over the past 30 days so I haven't had much time to develop the pokedex. However I am almost done with RS flavor text (text entries in the in-game pokedex). After that I will do egg moves. Then I will make a small update to the php pokedex. However, now I have another priority. I forgot to update about it eariler. The Pokemon Center in NYC will hold two RS tournments on monday. As soon as I locate their spring break schedule, again, I will post it. If I recall the first tournment will be from 11:30AM to 12:30PM EST on Monday. The second one will be held later that day, I believe from 3:30PM to 4:30PM EST. I am training for that tournment. I am some more news. The offical release date for Skyridge was pushed back. Now it will come out on May 5, 2003. That is the same day of the holiday called Cinco de Mayo.

Guys, please stop sending me emails about game "enhancing" devices. I do not support them and I will not help you if you have used them. If you email me to agrue, do not expect a reply.

I have some news. A few days ago in a japanese magazine called Coro-Coro confirmed a Pokemon GCN game. It will come out on May 30th, in japan and will be called Pokemon Box: Ruby and Sapphire. It is for people who need more space to store their pokemon. You can store up to 1500 pokemon on it. I guess I will need a few dozen for all of my pokemon... (Just Kidding). It will sell in two versions. One with the game and Memory Card 59. The more expensive version will have that and a GBA Cable. It will retail for 2000/2800 yen which will probably translate into a retail price tag of $19.95/$24.95 in the US. A while ago I told a friend who has about 10 different GSC cartridges to store his pokemon on that it would be nice if they had a game for people who want to store vast amounts of pokemon. Apparently someone high up in either Nintendo or GameFreak had the same idea. ^_^ Just for the record, I knew about this yesterday but didn't post it because I thought it was a rumor. It was confirmed today (that would be late yesterday in IGN's timezone) by a well known video game news site called IGN.

I created an RS TM/HM chart. I would make it one page however I plan to add more information that would make a single chart look cluttered.

I updated the PokeRUS virus page with RS information.

Guys, I noticed that people are still using the old url to the site: http://pokemonfanuniverse.homestead.com/ Please update your bookmarks to the newer url since the older url will stop working in a few months. The newer url, which Pokemon Fan Univere will always be located at, is: http://www.pokemonfanuniverse.com/

In Austrailia, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire have taken the top 2 spots. Also, here is an interesting piece of information. According to Nintendo's statistics, approximately 1 GBA SP is sold in Australia every 30 seconds. There is more; in Australia an RS tournment was held and the winner was Neil Naujok. Congladulations Neil, even through I don't know you and you will probably never read this. ^_^;;

Sorry for the lack of updates today. I will try to update tomorrow. Anyway I have some news. Nintendo is going to have a Pokemon RS tournment Monday the 21st at the Pokemon Center this month. Anyone in the North East of the USA should start training their pokemon...

Yes, I know. The polls page needs to be revamped. I am looking into onsite alternatives to Bravenet's Minipolls now.

Answering FAQ questions is fun. So far today. I have had and answered 4 FAQ qustions. Also, while I am typing... Forget what I said early about having 13 things on my to do list for the site today. Now there are 16 things. ^_^;;
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 12, 2003
I just converted the articles section to php and added a new article which actually is a news update from this month.

So far, I have 13 things to do for the site on my to do list for today. I hope I can finsh them all today. Now to stop complaining and get back to work...

I just updated the release dates on the sidebar.
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 12, 2003
I know, I know. This page is the only (known) one on the site that doesn't validate in XHTML. I have been trying to get the news updater software to use the correct markup but it was to no avail. So I decided to manually force it to use the correct markup. So now, it validates as XHTML.

I updated the Site Roadmap.
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 11, 2003
I just updated the Next in Japan, again. Apparently, I was about 6 days late yesterday so the episode I updated about, aired approximately 16 hours later which would be sometime Saturday in Japan.
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 11, 2003
I updated the Infinity Ticket and Secret hideout pages in the RS section with some information people have been asking me for lately.
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 10, 2003
I updated the Next in Japan and Section of the Month areas on the sidebar. I also made a slight change to the theme selector.
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 9, 2003
I just converted the site to XHTML 1.0. I figured, if I am going to convert it, I minus well convert it now, if I didn't, I would end up converting work I could have made in XHTML 1.0 in the first place. ^_^
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 8, 2003
I have added a few things to the RS section. I set it up so every page on the site should now be printable without the sidebars. Not that you guys print out the site's content on a daily basis or anything but knowing that you would save ink is a nice thought.
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 8, 2003
I still feel bad about how I didn't check the FAQs for new ones... Anyway, I just added two buttons to the bottom of every page on the main site. They state that the site's html/css code is high quality. And yes, I took the time to ensure the entire main site's code is high quality. I am not sure how many other pokemon fan sites do that. ^_^
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 8, 2003
I just logged into bravenet for the first time in a long time and I found 20 FAQ questions. Wow, talk about popularity. I am going to spend today answering them. I am very sorry to anyone who receives a late response. To prevent this from happening again, I will check the FAQ daily now. When I replace it with my FAQ Database which I am coding in PHP, this will never happen again. Just for future reference, emails are the fastest way to reach me since I check them several times a day.

Pokemon.com appears to have posted some information about the future of the TCG. I told you guys that Nintendo is taking over the TCG a while ago. Anyway, here is the article: http://www.pokemon.com/Products/03000387.asp

Ok, so I did miss somethings eariler today... Pokemon.com has information on the 5th pokemon movie: http://www.pokemon.com/movies/06000391.asp Wizards had released information on the Super Battle Zone: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=pokemon/league/superbattlezone According to Nintendo 2.2 million copies of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire have been sold in the US. So far RS has sold 4.2 million copies in japan. RS has been out in the US for 20 days, not even a month and it already has sold almost half the amount it has in Japan while in Japan it has been out for months. I think it is more popular in the US. Now, what was that about pokemon being dead again? ^_^
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 6, 2003
Wow, I have good amount of things to update with today. Anyway, while I was watching the Pokemon 4Ever DVD's audio commentary, one of the actors mentioned something I never really thought about. Therefore I thought about it (big surprise); now I have some questions and answers I will add to future FAQ when I am done with it. Anyway, they are: Why is Pokemon so Popular? What sets it apart from Yu-gi-oh, Digimon, Monster Ranchers, etc? Why has pokemon outlived them, when they are newer? The answer to all of these questions is pokemon sends a message. In general, in every episode, movie, piece of merchandise, whatever. The message is conveyed: "Never give up on your dreams." Pokemon encourages strong friendships. Pokemon's movies cover various things, in the first movie, it talks about cloning. The 4th movie which I just watched a few times, mentions Time Travel. None of these things Pokemon's competition has ever touched on. Pokemon's competition does not convey a message. That is why Yu-gi-oh, Digimon, Monster Ranchers, etc, could not last when Pokemon did. These things never go away. That is why, Pokemon is forever. ^_^

Wow, there is alot of news. I can't believe I have been neglecting it for so long. I just wanted a break from working on the site on a daily basis... Anyway, Nintendo has some news on their site about the future of the TCG: http://www.nintendo.com/news/news_articles.jsp?articleID=8416 http://www.nintendo.com/news/news_articles.jsp?articleID=8444 Pokemon RS came out in Australia and New Zealand. In England you can get US imports but it isn't offically released. I sincerely doubt there will be much of a difference if any difference between the US version and the English version. IGN has named Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire game of the month for March. On April 25th, 2003 a torchic themed GBA SP will come out in japan. I hope it comes out in the US soon after. I can't wait to be set back $100 in order to get a Pokemon GBA SP. ^_^;; And that should be everything I missed while I was being lazy. If I missed something else, please feel free to email me.

I just added a translator to the site. It is powered by babelfish. It is not perfect but I think people in foreign countries will find it useful. Also, I haven't decided on where to put it so the location may change.
Posted by: Shining Arcanine on April 6, 2003
I just added a search feature to the site. It is powered by Google so it may not be perfect but hopefully, you guys will find it useful.
do not click; if you do, you will be banned from viewing Pokemon Fan Universe
