DVs or deter values control: if a pokémon is shiny, it's hidden power and how strong it can get. There are DVs for: HP, attack, defense, special, speed. Sound Familar. They control how high a pokémon's status can be. They also control what hidden power a pokémon has.
In GSC, shiny pokémon can have only certain DVs. These are the possible DVs shiny pokémon can have:
HP DV: 0, 8
Attack DV: 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, 15
Defense DV: 10
Special DV: 10
Speed DV: 10
Note: In RS, shiny pokemon can have any DV.
To determine your pokémon's DVs. When they are at their maximum status. Use the box trick to raise their status. No it is not a bug. Nintendo put it in the game. I use it myself. First, find your pokémon's status. Then find out the maximum statistics for the species and then subtract your pokémon's maximum status from it. You may look up the maximum statistics data in the pokédex. Next divide it by 2. In GSC, subtract it from 15. In RS, subtract it from 31. If it becomes a negative number it's DV is 0. It would also not be fully boxed if it is a negitive number. You will have to do this for: HP, attack, defense, special, speed to find out all of your pokémon's DVs.
