This episode starts with Office Jenny announcing pokémon thieves have been spotted in the area and to be on the look out for suspicious looking strangers. Then in the middle of her announcement she spotted Ash running into town while carrying Pikachu, she said, “speak of the devil” in a surprised voice.

Officer Jenny then stops Ash and asks him where he is going with Pikachu. Ash tells her Pikachu is his and he needs to get it to the hospital. After hearing that she apologizes explaining, she thought he might be stealing it. She asks for his ID but he says he does not have one and is the fourth person she has seen from pallet today. Officer Jenny also says, “It is very unusual for a person to carry a pokémon around in his arms and not in a Pokéball,” and asks how does she know he did not steal Pikachu and not have any idenfication. Then as Ash starts talking, she notices his Pokédex. Then she tells him that Dexter is his Trainer ID.

After Dexter identifies Ash as a Pokémon Trainer, Officer Jenny gives Ash a ride to the Pokémon Center. They leave Misty in the dust, which has just appeared. She runs after them. Then Jessie and James members of the notorious Team Rocket snatched their wanted ad from the outside of the police station while making comments of how bad they are in those pictures. After a quick pathetic chat between Jesse, James, and Meowth the scene is over.

In the next scene, we see Ash and Officer Jenny reaching the Pokémon Center. Officer Jenny manages to jump the stairs and park inside next to the desk in her motorcycle. Nurse Joy then says that they have a driveway but Officer Jenny quickly says there is a pokémon emergency. Nurse Joy says it will be ok, and Chansey rush Pikachu to the emergency room. Ash says if there is anything, he could do but Nurse Joy cuts in telling him to be more responsible.

Officer Jenny leaves and Ash waits in the waiting room. He then notices the phone and calls home. His mom asks him where he is and he tells her he is in Viridian City. She then says it took his father 4 days to reach Viridian City. When Ash and his mom finish talking and hang up. Ash spots a curving of the Ho-oh he saw.

Then the phone starts ringing and since there was no one to pick it up Ash picked it up. Ash said who is it and Professor Oak says he is “over here” or behind him on the screen below the ho-oh picture. Professor Oak asks if Ash recognizes him and he says no because he sees the back of his head. Professor Oak was using the wrong camera and then changes it to the right one. The Professor says he just spoké to his mother and she says that Ash just made it to the Pokémon Center in Viridian City and asks if that is correct. Ash then says he could not be talking to him if it was not.

Anyway, Professor Oak says that he bet Gary one million dollars that Ash would have a new Pokémon before he reaches Viridian City. Ash says, “Well money isn’t everything, right?” You could see that Professor Oak was a bit disappointed. Ash then says he saw a flying pokémon like the one above Professor Oak. Professor Oak then says not to speak nonsense as he could not have seen that Pokémon because trainers have searched their lives and never saw it. Anyway, Professor Oak’s pizza arrives so they say goodbye to each other and hang up.

Misty appears saying, “now I got you” to Ash. Ash asks what happened to her bike and she replies, “What happened to my bike? You happened to my bike” angrily. She loses her balance and falls over holding her bike while yelling at Ash. Then when Ash tells Misty that his Pikachu is not doing well, she asks is it serious, and he replies that he thinks so and there is anything he can do to help.

Then Nurse Joy and Chansey come out rolling Pikachu on a stretcher. Nurse Joy says that Pikachu will be fine and Ash should go with it into the recovery room. Then after a quick chat between Ash and Misty, the siren goes off with an announcement from Officer Jenny. She says that city sensors detected an aircraft belonging to a gang of Pokémon thieves and anyone with a pokémon should be very cautious.

Then team rocket appears in a Hot Air balloon saying to each other that they should be being welcomed. Then they send out ekans and koffing by dropping the Pokéballs into the pokémon center while telling them to attack. Koffing does smokéscreen and then Jeesie, James, and Meowth appear, saying their pathetic motto, which is:

Prepare for trouble,
Make it double.
To protect the world from devastation.
To unite all people within our nation.
To denounce the evils of truth and love,
To extend our reach to the stars above.
Jessie
James
Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light,
Surrender now, or prepare to fight,
Meowth, That's Right.

Ash asks what they are talking about since what they just said did not make any sense. James says, “We’re here for the pokémon.” Ash then bravely tells them that they cannot have Pikachu; Jessie then says they are not interested in Pikachu. James then says that they want rare and valuable Pokémon. Nurse Joy then tells them that they are wasting their time as the pokémon center is for weak and injured pokémon. Jessie then says they might find some rare pokémon among all of the others; Ash then says there starting to bug him.

Then they order koffing and ekans to attack and Nurse Joy, Ash, and Misty run to another room with Pikachu. Team Rocket cuts the power but luckily, the pokémon center has a backup “Pika Power Source.” This happens to be a ton of Pikachu acting a generator. Nurse Joy then initiates emergency Pokéball transfer to Pewter City while contacting the Pewter City Pokémon Center.

Team Rocket breaks in and nurse joy tells Ash and Misty that they need to get the Pokéballs. Misty then says “this is war, don’t’ just hold them, throw them.” Ash then sends out a Pidgey from one of the Pokéballs that fell. Pidgey runs away and Ash tries another but it is empty. Misty says they are never going to beat them that way and Nurse Joy says some of the Pokéballs are empty. Ash tries another, which is a rattata. It runs away too.

Misty then sends out one of her water pokémon. She sends out Goldeen and bluffs saying she was just warming up when she calls it back. She tells Ash to grab Pikachu and be out of there so he does followed by Ekans and Koffing. Then dozens of Pikachu jump off the generator and recharge Ash’s Pikachu while using thundershock on Team Rocket.

Meowth then says rhetorically “Do I have to do everything” and claims he can easily take out Pikachu. Pikachu then asks Ash in Pikachu for more power and then Ash starts peddling Misty’s bike, which no longer has the ability to move and generates electricity, which Pikachu uses to shock team rocket. Then Koffing’s lets some gas escape by accident and the electricity touches it causing the Pokémon Center to Explode.

Officer Jenny arrives too late to help but not to watch the fireworks. Then Team Rocket ends up flying away on a rope attached to their hot air balloon, they decide to try to catch Pikachu and their hot air balloon pops and they go flying. The Nurse Joy in viridian speaks to the Joy in Pewter over the phone, in the rubble along with Officer Jenny.

Ash and Misty travel through virdian forest and they see a caterpie. Ash throws a Pokéball at it and then the show ends.
